About The Maritime Collection
The Maritime Collection of photographs are first generation copies made from glass lantern slides which were collected by my father, Frank Strike in the 1950’s. He was a local historian whose passion was the history of Porthleven and local shipwrecks. He held the Coastguard long service medal for 35 years as Number One in the Life-saving Team, during which time he was responsible for aiming and firing the rocket which carried the rope to the shipwreck. This involved him in saving several lives. Over the years he compiled this rare collection of photographs which I am reproducing for all to enjoy.
